Au Gratin Potatoes

Tender and cheesy, potatoes au gratin.

Ingredients

  • 1 clv garlic
  • 1 tbsp soft butter
  • 2 1⁄2 lb baking potatoes
  • 1 1⁄2 c milk
  • 1 1⁄2 c half and half
  • 1⁄4 tsp black pepper
  • pn ground nutmeg
  • 1 1⁄2 c chedder cheese
  • 1 c bread crumbs

Instructions

Halve garlic clove. Mix with butter.
Peel and thinly slice potatoes.
In a large sauce pan add potatoes, half and half, black pepper and nutmeg.
Bring to a gentle simmer and stir gently until the sauce thickens. About 5 minutes.
Pour mixture into a baking dish, ensure all potatoes are submerged.
Sprinkle the bread crumbs evenly over the potatoes. Cover with cheese.
Bake until the top is a golden crust and the potatoes are tender. About 1 hour.

Notes

You can substitute almost any other kind of cheese. Parmesan, Swiss, Gruyere and Romano are all great alternate choices.
