Great for entertaining large groups or to fill the need for eating yummy pub fare. These sliders are absolutely irresistible.
Cube cheese and put in freezer for at least half an hour.
In a large mixing bowl, mix sirloin, 1 finely diced onion, breadcrumbs, thyme, salt and pepper.
Make small patties about half the size of a hockey puck, cupping in your hand.
Wrap patty around cheese.
Heat canola oil in the frying pan and add 1 sliced onion. Cook for about 1 minute.
Place patties on top of onions (avoid touching surface of pan).
Cook 5-7 minutes, until cheese begins bubbling through and meat reaches 160 degrees F.
Place sliders on sour dough bread, slice to fit patties.
Mix the cabernet with the onions in the pan and heat for 1 minute.
Top sliders with onions and serve immediately.
