Chili the "Canadian" way. This is a great winter-time recipe for the slow cooker.
Brown ground beef, drain and pour into slow cooker.
Dice jalapenos.
Cut carrots, about 3 inch slices. If the carrots are large, cut in half first.
Cut celery like above.
Put all remaining ingredients in slow cooker and stir well.
Cook on low for 6 hours or more.
* I prefer to use a Canadian beer such as Molson Canadian, it seems to retain it's flavour the best. Likewise with BBQ sauce, I find KRAFT original to be the clear winner here. Although any really thick, chicory or maple style bbq sauce is great.
* If you don't like your chili spicy, you can take out the red pepper flakes, jalapeno peppers and sugar.
Substitution Suggestions:
* Replace kidney beans with 2 more cans of baked beans. I find the maple flavoured HEINZ beans to be a great addition.
* Use about 2 cups of thickly sliced fresh mushrooms, instead of canned.
